Foothills Art Center is hosting a Member Preview from 6-8 for their new show, Magnetic North. Mai has been painting on metal, first aluminum and now stainless steel, for almost twenty years. By exposing areas of the raw metal substrate, a unique juxtaposition results between the industrial material and her nature-based subject matter. Her work will be an exploration of our evolving and often tenuous union with nature as well as our inherent desire to connect with it. If you’re not a Foothills member, join now, so you can attend!
Your Ashtanga Yoga Studio is hosting a fund-raiser for IMPACT Personal Safety of Colorado tonight from 6-8PM. Admission is free and there will be a free door prize for the first 25 attendees. Food, wine, beer, and other beverages will be available for a donation. 612 10th St.
City Council meets at 7PM this evening (1/2 hour later than usual) in City Council Chambers. The will consider a proposed change to the definition of Community Mixed Use Zoning. The community has been quite vocal in their concerns regarding this type of zoning, which has allowed developers to build right up to the lot line, easily evade the “mixed use” requirement, replace one-story buildings with three stories, and to adopt designs that have no relationship to the surrounding neighborhood. This ordinance addresses some of the citizen concerns, and the Planning Department promises more changes to come.
The Planning Manager will present two ideas to Council regarding Affordable Housing. There will be no public hearing at this time.
The first is a budget request of $75,000 to provide rental assistance and home repair assistance. Rental assistance is used to help families who can afford to pay rent, but can’t come up with the first and last month deposits to enable them to get into an apartment. Home repair assistance helps Golden home owners stay in their homes by helping them with repairs to keep the homes warm, safe, and dry.
The second suggestion is a change to the 1% Growth Limit that would allow Affordable Housing projects to begin construction before they have the required allocations. The first use of this “early start option” is likely to be the Jefferson County Housing Authority’s 51-unit proposed low-income housing project at 24th and Ford Streets. The Housing Authority will also be requesting a special use permit to avoid the “mixed use” requirement that part of the development be commercial. They will also request a Tier 2 bonus, which would enable them to add a third story to the project.
The City Manager will present the first draft of the 2019 Capital Improvement Plan. There will be a public hearing.
Council will consider changes to the fees for city trash collection. The proposed changes are complicated and range from a 75 cent decrease to a $2.40 increase. See the meeting packet if you want to figure out your own changes.
