First Presbyterian Church of Golden on 16th Avenue - Click to enlarge

The September 5, 1963 Colorado Transcript covered a groundbreaking ceremony at the Presbyterian Church (map). The congregation had long been over-crowded in the old brick church at 15th and Washington Avenue (now Foothills Art Center). They had built a new church on 16th Avenue in the late 1950s.

Ground-breaking at the Presbyterian church

By 1963, they were ready to add a much-needed Sunday School wing. The addition more than doubled the floor space of the building.
