I used an old map and a Google satellite view to trace the course of the mill race. - Click to enlarge

Parfet Park was bisected by a mill ditch until the mid-1950s. The water running through the ditch powered the grinding operations at the Golden Mill.

In the October 21, 1926 Colorado Transcript, Mayor Bert Jones expressed concern about beaver depredations in Parfet Park.

The beautiful trees growing along the Golden mill ditch where it runs through the Parfet Memorial park are being badly damaged by beavers. The marshals, city clerk and police judge have borrowed all the bear and coyote traps they can find and are doing their best to get Messrs Beaver. I hope by the time these lines are on their way to the linotype the editor can add a line stating the police gang has won out.

By the time the paper went to press, the editor was able to add the following note:

The mayor has his wish. Marshal Tom Rowe made the first catch last week, a big papa beaver, and now the men are after the rest of the family.
