5:30-7PM The Sustainability Board is holding its first Water Task Force Meeting in the Public Works Building at 1445 10th Street (map). “Citizens are invited to participate in this strategic planning session to look at 3-4 potential initiatives related to water conservation and to volunteer to attend two additional meetings to complete research.”

7PM The regular Sustainability Board meeting will begin at 7PM, also in the Public Works Building. They will discuss the update to their 2015 Sustainability Strategic Plan. They will also consider sustainability best practices in single family and low-density residential construction. See the meeting packet for more info….

6:30PM Planning Commission meets this evening in City Council Chambers. They will consider two Right of Way vacations recommended by the City. This first includes an unused right of way in the Jefferson County campus area. The meeting packet explains that the streets in that area were developed differently than the original plat had envisioned, and the city’s right of way is no longer needed in any foreseeable future.

The other proposed vacation gives a piece of Quaker Street to AutoNation, which owns car lots on either side of the street (1/2 block of Quaker Street). The meeting packet explains that “The owner will realize a parcel more suitable for future business operations (which is an economic development benefit to the City). The City, in return, will no longer need to maintain a small section of right of way that only provides access for one property owner.”

The business meeting will be followed by a study session, in which they will review the most recent version of the West Downtown Neighborhood Plan. The City received many comments from residents of the 12th Street Historic District. They are concerned about current and future traffic speed and volume. They would welcome better pedestrian access, but not at the cost of losing parking spaces. For more details see the meeting packet….
