The Mobility and Transportation Advisory Board meets tonight at 6PM in City Council Chambers. Some members of the Planning Commission will join them to discuss the conundrum posed on Table Drive. Vernon and Table Drive were both built during the 1950s. The houses and lots are smallish, and they were built without garages, so residents park on the streets in front of their houses. The streets and the sidewalks are narrow, so pedestrians tend to walk down the middle of the street in between the lines of parked cars. Now, a developer has purchased one of the houses on Vernon and wants to build a garage on the back of his lot, opening onto Table Drive. This is distressing the residents of Table Drive, because 1 – they can’t afford to lose that length of street as parking, and 2 – they fear that this will set a precedent, and that all of the homeowners on Vernon will want to build garages that open onto Table Drive, and 3 – they don’t want people backing out of garages onto an already crowded street where children play and pedestrians walk. The Board will also consider “safety referrals” on Golden Ridge, Johnson, and South Golden Roads. See the agenda….
