Today is the last day to see the Peeps Literary Dioramas at the Golden Library. The PEEPle’s Choice Awards will happen tonight at 6PM at the Library.
The Fireside Pickers will be playing at New Terrain Brewing tonight, beginning at 6PM. The New Terrain Run Club will be heading out for a 2-6 mile run on North Table Mountain at 6:15PM, and you’re welcome to join them.
The Downtown Development Authority meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They have a full agenda.
Golden will be hosting an outdoor industry conference (The Wright) April 30-May2nd. The organizers will ask the DDA for a $3749.16 grant. If approved, and in combination with the already approved special events banner grant of $2,597.84, this grant would bring the DDA’s total support of The Wright to $6,347.00. The City also is providing $500.00 (20% of $2,500.00) to The Wright through a sponsorship with JeffCo EDC and peer cities.
The owner of the Ace Hi building (the historic Golden Opera House) is asking for an Exterior Improvement Grant to defray the cost of some planned facade improvements. Staff is recommending a grant of up to $30K, which would be about 1/3 of the cost. Mr. Stillman (the owner) also plans interior improvements, but those are not covered under this grant program.
Members of the Public Art Commission will update DDA members about a community art partnership project, the new mural planned for the History Museum, and possible future murals.
They may hear an update from the downtown merchants regarding their Summer Weekend plans.
They will hear about a downtown parking study, which has shown that the parking lots west of Washington are more crowded than the garages on the east side of Washington. City Staff will suggest that downtown employees be asked to park in the garages.
They will discuss traffic congestion on Ford St., and staff will report on their proposal to add decorative lighting to Miners Alley. See the meeting packet for the details on any of these topics.
