Paintings and Pumpkins, Affordable Housing and City Council

4:30-7PM Golden owes a great debt of gratitude to Irma Wyhs, who died last June. She was an artist, a reporter for the Golden Transcript, a founder of Foothills Art Center and a founder of the Golden History Park. She was also a past director of the Golden History Museum. On October 18th, artists from Foothills Art Center’s Open Studio program held a “Paint Out” in the History Park in memory of Irma. Their paintings will be on display at the History Museum from now until December 30th, and the opening reception for those paintings is today from 4:30-7PM. Stop by the museum, admire the paintings, and think of Irma and all she did for our community. Free admission and no registration is necessary.

6-8PM Foothills Art Center is closed from now until November 18th, when they open the Holiday Art Market, but that won’t stop them from holding their monthly party with Golden City Brewery. Head to the Peterson classroom (back of the building, south side, up the stairs) tonight from 6-8PM for a Pumpkin Carving Contest. They’ll supply the beer and carving tools. You bring your friends and pumpkins.

6-7:30PM Golden United’s Housing Task Force will meet at the Golden Library tonight. Ann Norton will begin the meeting with a discussion of preserving affordable housing. This is an important topic at a time when Golden’s existing housing stock is so vulnerable to scraping and replacing. This meeting will explore the alternatives to high density housing projects.

6:30PM City Council meets tonight in City Council Chambers. They will vote on an agreement to build a fiber conduit at the cost of $128K. The graduates of this year’s Public Works Citizens Academy will receive their graduation certificates (and road signs). They will consider adopting the Crosswalk Manual that MTAB has been developing. They will vote on a services agreement to rewrite our zoning code, at a cost of $150K. The Finance Director will provide a report on our 3rd quarter financial status. There will be a public hearing on the 2020 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Plan.
