In the summer of 1915, the Golden Band raised funds to build this bandstand, which was located at the intersection of 13th and Washington, near the Tramway depot. – enlarge - Click to enlarge

Brass band music was very popular with soldiers during the Civil War, and became an essential element of American life in the years following the war. Golden had its own local band as early as 1875, and for many decades brass band music was a vital part of any community gatherings—particularly popular at 4th of July celebrations.

In addition to the Golden Band, many local organizations had small groups of their own.
