Thanks for the responses to my question about including guest editorials/letters to the editor. The responses were 50/50, with some people loving the idea and others recoiling in horror at the thought of another Nextdoor full of whining and sniping and commercial messages. That’s certainly not what I’m envisioning, but I can see that I would need to carefully define editorial rules. Readers said they like the “factual” and “impartial” nature of What’s Happening in Golden, and don’t want it filled with people’s opinions. I’ll continue to think about it. In the meantime, if you belong to a citizens’ group, be aware that I will publish press releases in the News Stories About Golden email that comes out at 3PM.
The Citizens Budget Advisory Committee meets at 7:30 this morning in City Council Chambers. The Finance Director will report on our sales and use tax revenue (up from last year but less than projected in the 2019 budget). The Planning Director will report on parking issues downtown. (The lots west of Washington Ave. and perpetually full, while the higher levels in the parking garages east of Washington are user-used.) The Planning Director and Bethany Thomas from Calvary Church will provide an update on the Investment Forum Task Force. The Police Chief will provide an update on police business. The owners of the Dove Inn will describe their plans for redeveloping the Astor House. The City Manager will provide an update on their “due diligence” investigations into the Coors office building and property that the City plans to buy. You can watch the meeting live on the agenda page.
The Planning Commission will meet tonight at 6:30 in Council Chambers. They will discuss possible changes to the size limits for Accessory Dwelling Units within houses. They will also discuss the definition of “a household.” This issue is of concern to a city because there are generally limits as to how many unrelated people can live in a dwelling. For more information, see the meeting packet.
