Golden History Moment
The June 5, 1919 Colorado Transcript informed us that the Golden Fire Brick company was switching from steam power to electricity.
The installation of the electric power units will make possible the enlargement of the plant which has become necessary because of the constantly increasing demand for the splendid product of this plant. Considerable new machinery is now being installed, and the new kilns are being built, which will enable the plant to double its capacity. The power is supplied by the local power company, and the electrical equipment is the best to be had.
The brick company was located on the north side of 8th Street, along the Colorado & Southern Railroad tracks.
The Golden Transcript (originally called the Colorado Transcript) has been publishing since 1866. The Golden History Museum has been working on digitizing the historic issues. You’ll find old Transcripts online at coloradohistoricnewspapers.org.
