This year’s One Book. 1 Golden. selection is Benediction by Kent Haruf. You may be familiar with this author’s earlier works, Plainsong and Eventide, which were set in the same fictional small town of Holt, in Eastern Colorado. Those books were wonderful, and were adopted for stage productions at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.
The One Book 1 Golden program is designed to promote a culture of reading and bring the community together through a shared reading experience. If you belong to a book club, you may want to choose Benediction as one of your selections this year. The library will host a community-wide discussion of the book on September 17th. Borrow the book from the library–they have 128 copies available!
The library will sponsor a photography contest, challenging amateur photographers to consider our own small town, and to answer the question, What is it about Golden that sets it apart and makes it unique? What says “Golden” to you? More details about the photo contest and other One Book. 1 Golden. programs will be posted soon on the library’s website.
