West Side Live Presents! is starting their 2019/2020 concert season tonight, with Davey, Do You See the Light?, a folk musical by songwriter Jim Broyles. Read more about the songwriter and his production.

Return with us to August of 1963, when three coal miners become trapped far underground in Pennsylvania. Mysterious things begin to happen in the darkness as they wait to be rescued. Davey, Do You See the Light? is based on an amazing and unlikely true story that people still talk about it. Were the miner’s accounts of visions and revelations really true or figments of their imaginations?

‘Davey’ is an unusual and unique theatrical event. It unveils the enigmatic tale of Davey, Hank and Louie with poetic verse and thirteen original folk songs. Written by Denver songwriter Jim Broyles (guitar), the cast includes Steef Sealy (banjo), Chris Sealy (mandolin), Ben Cowhick (bass) and Luke Halpin (fiddle). Each reads a character from the story and together they give us a harmonic and melodic performance of Davey’s uplifting songs.
