Olde Golden Christmas Starts Tonight with the Candlelight Walk

2017 Candlelight Walk – Click to Enlarge

The Candlelight Walk is my favorite Golden event of the year. Here’s what to expect: People will start to gather at the top of the hill, 15th and Washington, at about 6PM. You can bring a candle, glowstick, or flashlight, or the Lions Club will be selling candles. The group will begin walking down the hill at 6:30PM. Santa Claus will be in the lead. As the crowd reaches each block of the downtown shopping district, the holiday lights will come on–the 1300 block, then the 1200 block, then the 1100 block. When they reach the Visitors Center, the Mayor will flip a switch and the big tree at 10th and Washington and the trees along the Creek will illuminate. It is an enchanting sight!

Afterwards, we’ll have a brief fireworks display as the group fans out to visit the Golden History Museum and History Park, the Golden Library, and the downtown shops and restaurants. Expect lots of music and food samples in the stores.
