Old Friend, New Council, and Free Speech

4:30-5:30PM Demonstration
All are welcome to join a No War with Iran protest at the Buffalo Bill statue on Washington Avenue (map). Bring signs and lights (not candles) and dress warmly. Nationwide protest organized by MoveOn.org.

5PM Dave Powers
Dave’s Celebration of Life will begin with a memorial (and slide show) from 5-6 at the Mountaineering Center (map), followed by food, drink, and live jazz at the Golden Hotel (map) from 6-8PM.

5:30PM City Council
The new City Council members will be sworn in tonight. Laura Weinberg will become our new Mayor, Casey Brown will begin a second term as the District 2 representative, and JJ Trout will join Council representing District 1. Laura’s vacated Ward 4 position will be filled with a special election, to be held on April 28, 2020. There will be a reception from 5:30-6:30 in Council Chambers to thank the outgoing Councilors and welcome the new one. The regular meeting will begin at 6:30PM. Tonight’s consent agenda includes an expenditure of $385,483.20 to purchase new golf carts for Fossil Trace. Council will vote to approve the number of new dwellings that will be allowed in Golden this year (as dictated by the 1% growth limit). That number is 78.
