Obituary: Runie Gibson Powers

Runie Gibson Powers, age 86 of Golden, Colorado, passed peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Lutheran Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge. Runie is survived by her husband, Dave, her sons, David Jr., and Brian, and his wife, Jennifer and their daughter, Leela Powers.
Runie was born to the late Dewey J. Gibson and Runie Hollis Gibson on November 11, 1930 in Columbus, Georgia. She grew up in Brunswick, Georgia, attending Glenn Academy before enrolling in the University of Georgia. She was employed by Delta Airlines where she met her husband, David Powers, of Sanford, Maine. They were married on December 21, 1958.

Runie raised her family in Canton, New York and New London, New Hampshire. They moved to Golden, Colorado in 1988. After completing Leadership Golden, Runie served on the Buffalo Bill Days Board of Directors and the Summit homeowners’ association board at Mesa Meadows.

With a love of travel, she saw much of the world with her husband and family. Runie especially enjoyed dining out with family and friends. Many remember her as someone with a gentle Southern accent, always willing to help with an abundance of hospitality and grace, who always looked on the bright side.

Her courage, perseverance, and sense of humor during times of challenging health was an inspiration to those that knew her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
