Golden History Moment

The January 7, 1932 Colorado Transcript showed that New Years Eve of 1931 was profitable for Jefferson County. Prohibition was still in effect. That didn’t stop people from possessing and drinking alcohol, but it meant that they could be assessed steep fines when caught.

Lakeside Amusement Park (originally called the White City)

Lakeside Amusement Park was hosting a walkathon, and law enforcement gathered “a large haul” there. Many others were arrested at dance halls throughout the county.

“Ben Rosenberger is said to have become hilarious at Rock Rest and taken a swing at Undersheriff Vernon Downing. He paid $50 and costs on a disturbance charge.”

Most of the culprits were scheduled for trial in early January. Those who had already pleaded guilty paid fines ranging from $50-100.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
