GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

Linder Hardware building and its successor, Hested’s Department Store – enlarge

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned the Linder Hardware building, which preceded the Hested’s Department Store (which preceded Gateway Station) at 13th and Washington. I thought you might enjoy seeing the photo that I took in January of 2007:

The Hested’s building had been demolished, and there was a big hole in the ground, where the Gateway Station foundation would go. The white structure is the temporary covered sidewalk they had up during construction I took the picture because I liked the temporary view of Castle Rock.

I took The above photo of the west side of that block on the same evening. It too has become a historical curiosity because Foss Drug was still there, on the south end of the block.

One last one: this 2007 photo shows the old “wild west” facade on the Buffalo Rose.
