The Golden Lions Club puts on a nice 4th of July party in Lions Park. They will have free rides (bouncy castles) for kids, face painting, food vendors, and live music from noon till 9PM. Buy some raffle tickets! That will help the Lions pay for the event and enter you in the raffle drawings they’ll hold all day long. The grand prize is $1000.
The City will put on a fireworks display at approximately 9:30, weather permitting. We’re not particularly dry this year, so high wind would be the most likely complicating factor. In the unlikely event that they have to cancel, they will report it on the City’s Facebook page. Lions Park is a good place to watch the fireworks, but you can see them from many places around town.

The parking lot where we now hold the Farmers Market used to be the site of our public pool. In fact, the building that now holds the library used to be our rec center, and remained so until we built the “new” one in Lions Park in 1994. Fifty years ago (in 1969), Golden’s youngsters celebrated the 4th of July at the pool, as follows:
A special swimming session will be held from 10AM until noon with the emphasis on fun and games in the water. Races, games and relays will be dreamed up by the pool personnel and participation is open to everyone. The highlight of the session should be the “greased Watermelon” contest in which groups of youngsters will endeavor to remove one of the slippery critters from the pool as rapidly as possible. To anyone who thinks this is an easy matter the center invites you to come and have a try at it. Golden Transcript – July 3, 1969.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for putting the historic Transcripts online, and thanks to the Golden Transcript for documenting life in Golden since 1866!
