The Parks & Recreation Board will meet tonight at 7, at the Golden Community Center. Their main topic tonight will be the heavy use and sometime abuse of the Clear Creek corridor this summer. On the one hand, we like to attract visitors to improve our sales tax revenue. On the other, some of the visitors this summer are bringing coolers with them, eroding our infrastructure, and not spending money in town. On the one hand, most of the visitors are happily floating down the Creek, looking picturesque and adding to the overall “fun” feel downtown. On the other, a few of the visitors are drinking alcohol by the creek, bringing glass containers to an area where people walk barefoot, and being rude to other Creek users and the Golden police. On the 4th of July, one of our police cars had a window broken, and another had its paint scratched with keys.
The City’s current response is to provide extra police patrols to ensure that the area remains safe and fun for everyone. If you would like to weigh in on this subject, you are welcome to address the Parks board tonight during the public comment period.
