Mines & Beer, Additions, and Sight-Singing

6-7:30PM – The Golden History Museum is hosting Dave Thomas, author of Of Mines and Beer. Gold mining & commercial beer brewing in Colorado started in the same year, 1859. Demand for good beer arose due to the dusty and dangerous conditions faced by Europeans streaming to Colorado to strike it rich in gold. The linkage between mining and brewing in Golden, along the front range and in nearby mountain communities was at times terrifying, educational and even comical. Historian, author and craft brewer Dave Thomas relays the historical accounts of these 19th century brewing families, often in their own words, and compares the historical brewing styles and techniques with those of craft brewers today.

6:30PM – The Historic Preservation Board will consider two cases in the East Street neighborhood. Two homeowners plan additions to their homes, and since they are both located within the East Street Historic District, the Board will be asked to provide Certificates of Appropriateness. The owner of 1903 Ford Street, which was built in 1944, plans to put a 2-story addition on the east part of his house. The owners of 1615 East Street, which was built in approximately 1934, plan an addition in the back of their property, which will not be visible from the street. See the meeting to learn more about these projects….

7PM – The Golden Concert Choir will teach sight singing classes this summer. Learn to sing from a written score–or improve your skill. Starting this evening, they will have a beginning class Mondays from 7-8PM and an intermediate class from 8-9PM. The classes will take place at the Methodist Church at 1500 Ford St. You may attend the first lesson for free. If you decide to join the class, the cost for 8 lessons will be $240 plus $10 book fee.
