Memorial Day Parade and Marine Memorial Ceremony

Memorial Day is busy for the Golden Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  At 6:30 AM, they will raise the “Avenue of Flags” in the Golden Cemetery.

At 10AM, the VFW, American Legion, and a pipe band will form up for Golden’s first Memorial Day parade.  The parade will meet at the new VA Clinic at 1020 Johnson Road (map).  They will march down 10th Avenue to Ulysses and enter the cemetery at the north gate.

At 11AM they will conduct a flag service in the Veterans section of the cemetery.

At 2PM, there will be a Memorial Day ceremony at the Marine Corps Memorial (map), which honors the overall service of the U.S.M.C. as well as specific units, special corps (such as FMF Corpsmen and Women Marines) and various wars.

Ken Giese will play the bagpipes, Hazel Miller will sing the national anthem, Bob Antosik will play the bugle, and Tom Loux will release white doves.  The Women Marines Association CO-1 will provide a wreath and the program; James G. Chapman will serve as the Honorary Marine Memorial Chaplain, and the 1st Colorado High Plains Regiment, Young Marines will serve as color guard.

Please note: parking for this event is at Home Depot.  Please walk from there to the site.  Handicapped and pre-approved parking will be available on-site.

As always, THANK YOU to the Golden Kiwanis Club and Boy Scout Troop 130 for the flags they place along South Golden Road.  For $30/year, you can help sponsor the flag display here in Golden, and they will also place a flag in front of your home or business!  Visit the club’s website to sign up!
