Golden History Moment

Colorado Transcript – October 13, 1966

The October 13, 1966 Colorado Transcript announced the opening of Golden’s newest grocery store. Miller’s Super Market operated at 13th and Ford for two years. In 1968, the store was acquired by a regional chain known as Del Farm. In 1975, it became a Mark’n Bag discount grocery store.

First National Bank leased the building in October, 1976. That bank was later acquired by United Banks. There may have been other acquisitions in the interim, but for the past several years the building has been known as “the Wells-Fargo Wire Transfer Center.”

The building is now empty and available for lease. Several developers have indicated interest in redeveloping the property, but so far the out-of-state owners are holding out, hoping to lease it, rather than sell it.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!

Coors Merchandise

Coors is liquidating a bunch of Coors-branded merchandise and donating the proceeds to Mile High United Way. The sale runs through this Friday, 9AM-3PM every day, in their visitor parking lot at 14th and Washington. The merchandise is deeply discounted, and again–all proceeds go to charity.
