The Mayor’s Award ceremony is tonight at 6:30 at the Mountaineering Center. Frani & Ted Bickart, Heather Schneider, Vicki Wagner, and Erik Weihenmayer will be receiving individual awards, and Baby Doe’s Clothing (Nancy Taylor Mason) is this year’s business winner. These people have all made extraordinary contributions to Golden.
Following the awards, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will talk about how he brought Oklahoma City to be one of the ten most fit cities in the country after having been named one of the most obese. As part of his million pound weight loss challenge for Oklahoma City residents, he was able to reprogram the city’s infrastructure and rebuilt it as a more commuter-friendly town for pedestrians. In recognition of his efforts, Mayor Cornett was designated the 2010 Governing Magazine’s Public Official of the Year and was selected by the London-based City Mayors Association as runner-up for the World Mayor Award. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited to 350, so come early – first come, first served.
Come early and you can check out the Colorado Mountain Club’s Fall Equipment Sale, which starts at 6. You may score some real bargains!
Alternatively, you can enjoy great live jazz by the Clear Creek Jazz Quintet at the Bridgewater Grill from 6-9..
