M Climb, Carriage Rides, Movie in the Park Tonight

Colorado School of Mines M-Climb - Golden Colorado

Information from the Colorado School of Mines:
Incoming students at Colorado School of Mines will make their traditional trek up Mt. Zion on Friday, Aug. 17, kicking off the 2018-2019 school year and their journey as Orediggers.

Students will carry a 10-pound rock from their hometown to add to the “M”, coating their rocks with fresh whitewash at the mountainside monument. President Paul C. Johnson and other Mines faculty and staff will join students in the annual M Climb.

The M Climb will kick off around 7:30 a.m. on the South Intramural Fields on the Mines campus. Students will walk to 19th Street and will begin their climb up Lookout Mountain Road to the “M”. Lookout Mountain Road above the arches will be closed to public access during the M Climb until 1 p.m. Friday.


Road Closure Information from the City of Golden:
The Colorado Classic Bike Race will be passing through Golden tomorrow morning (Saturday the 18th)Lookout Mountain Road will we closed at the US 6 and 19th St intersection from 6-11:15AM.  Neighborhood residents will be able to get in and out.  19th Street, Jackson, and 13th St./32nd Avenue will be closed from 10:30-11:15AM.  See the City’s web page for more information and a link to the race website.  The City is looking for volunteers to help with the race, and if you like watching bike races, volunteering would give you a great viewing opportunity.  If you want to help please contact: Diane Tiberi (DTiberi@CityofGolden.net)  303-277-8728.

11th Street west of Washington Avenue will be closed from this morning through Sunday evening for the Golden Fine Arts Festival.


Downtown Shenanigans Tonight
The merchants will be celebrating Golden Weekends tonight with late hours in the stores, carriage rides from 6-8PM, and some good musicians on the street.  In addition, the City is hosting Movies and Music in the Park tonight, with music and dance beginning at 7PM in Parfet Park, and the movie Coco beginning at dusk.  See today’s Golden Business News for the complete rundown of evening frivolities.

12:30-1:30PM
The Golden History Roundtable will happen at the Golden Library from 12:30-1:30PM.  We’ll be discussing the Goosetown neighborhood, so if you’ve always wondered where the heck Goosetown is, here’s your chance to find out.
