Each month we explore a different environmental topic and discover what makes Colorado wild and wonderful. No registration required. For ages 6-10.
From 6-7:30, the Library will host Nymph-Fishing Basics. Local fly fishing expert Bob Artale shows you how to cut costs for leaders, how to lose fewer flies and catch lots of fish with an emphasis on bounce nymphing. With over 50 years of fishing experience, he’ll help you discover new places to fish, too! Note – this is not a casting class. Limit 40.
The Lookout Mountain Nature Center will present Preschool Nature Nuts: Fabulous Frogs. “How deep is a frog pond? Knee-deep, knee-deep!” Join us to learn about the types of frogs that live in Jefferson County, such as the songs they sing, their jumping abilities, what they eat, and how they transform from egg to tadpole to frog. You’ll do plenty of fun activities and make a craft too! This program is specifically designed for children ages 3-5 years with an adult. We ask that your child has reached his/her third birthday before participating in this class. Your child has several chances to see this presentation: tomorrow (Thursday) morning from 10:15 and again at 11:15, and Saturday morning at 10:15 or 11:15.

This Saturday is the 9th Annual Greener Golden Day. Kick-off the growing season with the City of Golden for the 9th annual Greener Golden celebration. Pick up your pre-ordered Garden in a Box. Tour the Golden Community Garden and learn about opportunities to participate. Learn about the City’s Sustainability programs, including water conservation and free sprinkler inspections. Find out how to deal with your green waste and how best to divert these materials from the landfill. Pick up free compost to amend your garden soil. Bring your own container to fill – buckets, trash cans, old potting mix bags, etc. Free
Sunday morning, you can take a Botanical Field Trip to the Upper Washington Avenue Open Space, which is a small (4 acre) City of Golden-owned parcel that was deeded to the city in 1993 as part of the surrounding developments. The city has no current plans for this parcel. An area of about 1.5 acres in the center of the parcel contains a somewhat intact native mixed-grass prairie. The current plant list shows there are 98 species of plants growing here, 64 of which are native to Colorado. This field trip is designed for anyone interested in seeing this small open space and learning about the native plants here. There will be a plant list with both scientific and common names. Free. If you use the City’s waste collection service, you’ll be glad to hear that Spring Yard Waste Collection happens next week. Please have your yard waste out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Use compostable bags if you choose to bag your yard waste.
