2PM The Library is hosting Wild Senses. Little learners take on animal behaviors to experience the natural world around them, as animals would. An adventurous Denver Museum of Nature & Science educator guides explorers as they smell out their food like a squirrel, hunt in the dark like a raccoon, and use infrared detection to see prey like a snake. The mission of the Golden Safety Academy is to help educate and empower citizens with information and resources that enhance their personal safety and crime prevention. The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will discuss last month’s field trip to the West Colfax urban renewal area. Staff will report on construction projects in the West Colfax area, including the Duluth Trading Company in the old Staples store and several new buildings that are near completion in Gateway Village. Staff will also update them about the new DeLong Park on 23rd Street (the buildings have been razed). Learn more….

The National Renewable Energy Lab will host a Power Lunch Lecture tomorrow from 12-1PM. The topic is Modernizing the Electric Grid An Exciting Time to Be Working in the Area of Power Systems. Presented by Annabelle Pratt, Ph.D., Principal Engineer, Power Systems Engineering Center at NREL
The electric grid is the world’s largest machine. Every time you plug a device into an outlet, you are connecting to a marvelously complex machine–technically, financially and socially. Do we need to invest in modernizing the grid so that we can continue to have access to affordable, reliable and sustainable power? Are technologies developing in a way that would allow consumers to take an active part in a modernized grid? Join Dr. Annabelle Pratt, Principal Engineer with the Power Systems Engineering Center at NREL, as she discusses the opportunities and challenges in modernizing the electric grid.
