Mayor Marjorie Sloan has chosen Long Man by Amy Greene as this year’s GOLDEN READS selection.
Long Man tells the story of Yuneetah, Tenn., a small town about to be flooded by a Tennessee Valley Authority dam project. When three-year-old Gracie Dodson goes missing, the handful of remaining residents race against the rising water to find her, at the same time struggling with the gradual erasure of their home. Greene blends historical fiction and suspense with poetic meditations on the landscape and traditions of Appalachia.
Everyone in the Golden community is encouraged to read the book, and discuss it with others. If you’re in a book club, read and discuss it with them. The library has 53 copies of the book, and 6 copies of the audio version on CD, so get on the list to borrow it, and you won’t have long to wait.
The author, Amy Greene, will be visiting Golden on September 18th. Put that date in your calendar, and plan to be at the Mountaineering Center (10th & Washington). We’ll have food trucks there at 5, and a reading and book-signing at 7! Learn more.
