The Library
As usual, the library is a sizzling hotbed of activity. They have three storytimes this morning: Baby Time from 9:15 to 9:45, Toddler Time from 10:15 to 10:45 and Baby Time (again) from 11 to 11:45. At 2:30, the Golden Fleece Fiber Fellowship will meet for needlework, spinning, or whatever fiber craft people choose to bring. There’s a children’s program–Build a Better World with Salida Circus–from 2:30-3:30…but they have a waiting list to be admitted. All ages Lego Play & Build is scheduled for 4-5, and the Golden Writing Circle will meet from 6 to 7:30.
Speaking of waiting lists…there are still a few spaces available tomorrow’s DIY Lab, where kids 11+ can make their own LED flashlight out of an Altoids Smalls tin. They’ll learn to solder and get some practice creating simple circuits. Register now, while you still can. Thursday’s Magic show has a waiting list. Check their calendar to see if there are things coming up that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Bars & Breweries
As usual, our watering holes offer several mid-week entertainment possibilities. Tonight’s options include Yoga on Tap at New Terrain Brewery, Bingo at the VFW, Trivia Night at the Ace Hi, and Geeks Who Drink at the Buffalo Rose.
If you’re a regular at Golden Beer Talks, remember that they are not meeting this month. They’ll resume on August 8th, with a talk about the Colorado Prairie Initiative.
NREL/SERI
Tomorrow night at 7, the Colorado Renewable Energy Society will be Celebrating Renewable Energy Pioneers. Hear from remarkable scientists and engineers on what motivated their research in solar power and other fossil fuel alternatives when oil was king and how they weathered hostility from earlier governments. Our headline speaker is Denis Hayes, who was SERI’s second director and famously co-founded Earth Days.
This event marks the 40th Anniversary of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and its predecessor, the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI). Free. Join us for a networking reception with food and drinks after the presentation. RSVP not required but helps us plan the food – and your donation helps pay for it. Co-sponsored by the Colorado Renewable Energy Society, the JUC Green Task Force and New Energy Colorado/Golden Earth Days.
