It’s seldom that we encourage people to leave Golden, but there will be a public hearing tonight at the Westminster City Park Recreation Center, 10455 Sheridan Boulevard. This is an important event in our long battle to keep a tollway from bisecting Golden. The pro-tollway group are hoping to buy a piece of the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge to build a tollway from the northern suburbs, straight through Golden, to intersect with I-70. We (the City of Golden) have offered to buy that same piece of Rocky Flats land for more money and turn it into a bike path instead. The Fish and Wildlife Service gets to make this decision, and we fear they are leaning towards permitting the highway. We need a strong showing from Golden at this meeting to indicate how seriously we take this issue. The City Council meeting has been cancelled tonight and all City Councilors will be attending the Westminster meeting instead. The Environmental Assessment under discussion is available online..
