The Library offers Sound Effects that Rock (school aged kids) from 1-2PM this afternoon. Potentially loud, definitely fun. Whether its the sound of aliens landing, a crack of thunder, or the blast of a ray gun, learn what creates these effects and try your hand at making your own in the library laboratory.
The Library’s High Voltage Book Group (school age tweens) meets today from 3:30-4:30. This month’s book is The Firefly Code. Read the book on your own, then conduct science experiments and build gadgets based on the book. Next month’s book (August 9th) will be Upside Down Magic.
City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will consider
– an ordinance regarding Water And Wastewater Services, Fire Hydrant, Stormwater And Cross Connection Regulations And Fees.
– a Resolution regarding flood control and stormwater quality control measure requirements for new development and redevelopment.
– an ordinance requiring the School of Mines to open 14th Street west of Maple.
– a resolution authorizing an agreement between Golden, the County, and a bunch of other city governments to implement a new program of the Denver Regional Council of governments (DRCOG) whereby local jurisdictions will collaboratively recommend funding priorities for federal transportation dollars.
2 Examples of CMU Zoning:
One of the items on tonight’s consent agenda concerns a possible change to CMU zoning. This relatively new type of zoning is being used to build some shockingly tall/close-to-the-sidewalk buildings. Residents near the new developments have asked for some significant changes to the CMU zones. Staff has written a somewhat watered-down version of the requested changes, and the resulting ordinance will be brought up for discussion and a vote at the July 26th Council meeting.
The kick-off event for next week’s ARTSWEEK GOLDEN will happen tomorrow. Some of our downtown bronze sculptures are going to be yarn-bombed! (In truth, I’m not 100% sure what that means, but I’m looking forward to finding out!)
