The Buffalo Bill Museum has an interesting program today, particularly if you’re interested in Civil War history (which I am!):
1:30 pm & 2:30 pm: Bleeding Kansas: Buffalo Bill Reflects
Buffalo Bill recounts the violence and terror of the battle to determine if the new state of Kansas would be a free state or a slave state. Bill describes his family’s suffering and how they endured to overcome the lawlessness of the times.
2 pm & 3 pm: My Brother’s Courage During Terrible Times
Helen Cody Wetmore recalls the terrible events leading up to Kansas becoming a state and how her big brother Billy took on adult responsibilities. Her tales of Bill’s courage, decisiveness and determination show the early stages of the man he would become.
This is the final day of Artsweek Golden. I visited the Arts Festival yesterday, and saw some beautiful art. The artists’ booths are set up in the grassy commons area in the middle of the School of Mines campus, and I was able to find a very convenient parking spot on Illinois Street, half a block away. You should visit! They’ll be there from 10AM-5PM today.
The Golden History Museum will have a program tomorrow night (Monday) at 7 about the Vietnam War. Free for members; $10 non-members. Register.
The Vietnam War was one of the most divisive conflicts in U.S. history. On the 50-year anniversary of the 1968 protests, this lecture explores the origins of the anti-war movement, its impact on foreign policy and its place in American memory. Presented by University of Colorado – Denver Professor Dr. Greg Whitesides.
