The Public Art Commission meets this morning at 9AM in City Council Chambers. They are getting ready to post a request for proposals for a new piece of art at the north end of town, along Highway 93. The budget is $50,000. They have moved the piece that used to be in that vicinity (“Checkmate”) to the “lid” at Highway 6 and 19th Street. Their meeting packet includes a letter from a citizen who objects to Checkmate’s representation of a wild horse being roped. They are also working with an artist who will do a mural on the Goldco retaining wall as part of the North Washington Avenue redesign. City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. Last week, they conducted off-camera interviews for members of the new Mobility and Transportation Advisory Board. This week they will announce the appointments. UPS has asked permission to conduct a pilot program during the holiday season to use golf carts to deliver packages in some neighborhoods. If you’re planning to attend UllrGrass in January, you should go to New Terrain Brewing this evening, because they will be selling locals-only discounted weekend passes. The weekend pass will be $70 tonight (versus $90 regular price). You can also buy a discounted beer fest ticket (must first purchase a weekend pass) for $20 instead of $25. These are cash prices. They will have live music to serenade your purchase and they are introducing the seasonal UllrGrass Pale Ale.
Golden High School is having their holiday choir concert tonight at 7PM. The school’s Artist in Action Club will be selling handmade ornaments in the cafeteria prior to the GHS music department’s holiday concert. The group will be there from 6:00 p.m. until the concert starts.
The Friends of the CSM Geology Museum will host a lecture at the Ben Parker Student Center (16th & Maple – map). Mark Ivan Jacobson will discuss “The Pegmatites of Colorado – A Survey of Localities.” Socializing begins at 6:30 and the lecture will begin at 7. This event is free and open to the public.
