Proposed plan for DeLong Park – Click to enlarge

7PM The Parks, Recreation, and Museum Board meet tonight in City Council Chambers. Parks Director Rod Tarullo will present the final design for DeLong Park prior to taking it to City Council. The responses from the neighbors have generally been very positive, though there is concern about building a path from 24th Street, as that is a favored place for high school students to smoke and vape. They also hope that play structures and trash containers will be neutral colored. Deputy City Manager Carly Lorentz will present the Heart of Golden (Clear Creek redesign) project to the board and solicit their comments. Stacy Turner will review their 2020 work plan, which is included in the meeting packet. The 2020-2025 strategic plan is also included in the packet. The department lacks adequate funding to maintain the current facilities. They have trouble attracting seasonal staff (Splash, mowing, etc.) and are facing increased minimum wage. They have a backlog of ADA projects. They compete with many other city priorities for financing from the city’s general fund. See the meeting packet for more information….

OLLI West has released their list of classes for the spring session, March 30 – May 22. For those unfamiliar with OLLI, it’s a nationwide program providing lifelong learning for people aged 50 and older. For a flat fee of $130, you can take as many classes as you like (and some scholarships are available). The instructors are all volunteers, and the course offerings are quite diverse.

I’ll be teaching a Golden History class through OLLI, April 6th – May 4th. The class will be held at the Golden History Museum on Monday afternoons and will be a combination of lectures, walking tours (when the weather permits) and guest speakers.
