Golden History Moment
Have you been wondering what Coors is doing along Ford Street? The construction along the western edge of their property includes a plan to bring Kinney Run (or “Kenny’s Run,” as Coors calls it) above ground. This would result in an open waterway running parallel to Ford Street from 14th to Clear Creek. Matt Burde found an artist’s rendering of the proposed changes on the County website. Scroll to p. 6 in this document.
The gully that now contains Jackson Street used to be the stream bed for a natural drainage. Beginning in the late 1950s, the city and property owners along the drainage constructed underground pipes for the stream and built roads and parking lots over the stream. See the article I wrote about this in April…scroll down to the History Moment.
Coors was the last to bury the stream as it ran through their property. Now they will be the first to disinter it!
Many thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
