How to be totally in-the-know about Golden

First, of course, subscribe to Golden.com.

Then sign up for Leadership Golden.  This is a fantastic program that will teach you all about Golden and show you how to get involved in the community.  Over the course of nine months, they have sessions on government, history, culture, city finance, volunteering, and much more.    They’re accepting applications now for the class that starts this fall.  The class is free.  They’ve offered this class every year since 1984, and the alumni list is a Who’s Who of Who’s Making Golden Great.

Both alumni and those interested in learning more are invited to a Leadership Golden Meet and Greet tonight, from 5:30-7:30, at the Old Capitol Grill (map).

For more information and/or to apply, visit www.leadershipgolden.org or contact Alison Broder at 303-384-4141 or leadershipgolden@gmail.com.

There are still a few tickets left for tonight’s presentation of DamNation at the Mountaineering Center.  This powerful film odyssey across America explores the sea change in our national attitude from pride in big dams as engineering wonders to the growing awareness that our own future is bound to the life and health of our rivers.

City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They will be asked for a grant to support Shelton Elementary’s 5K race.  They will hold a public hearing on the proposed revision of the City’s criminal code.  They will hold a public hearing on whether to authorize 8 new townhomes on 8th Street.  After the business meeting, they will hold a study session in which the Parks & Recreation director will discuss that department’s fees and charges.  They will then hear from the Community & Economic Development director about the new Downtown Development Authority.  Finally they will be briefed by City staff on how the city proposes to support Council’s 2014/2015 Signature Initiatives.  As always, you can watch the meeting on Cable Channel 8 or online, through the City website.
