The Horse Protection League’s Spring Tack Sale starts this morning at 9AM. This is one of their major fund-raisers, in that all of the tack and riding gear is donated. The prices are terrific, so sales are brisk. In addition to boots, bits, bridles, saddles, halters, etc., they’re selling HPL-branded shirts, hoodies, and plush horse toys. They also have some really cute tote bags and gardening aprons made out of repurposed feed sacks.
The Tack Sale is open today and tomorrow from 9AM to 4PM. All proceeds go to provide care and feeding for the horses. This is also a great opportunity to see the historic Churches Ranch, which was established in the early 1860s. Located just north of Golden, it’s a direct step into Colorado history!
At 9:30 this morning OLLI West at the Jeffco Unitarian Church (map) will present Journaling With Nature’s Jewels: Hummingbirds of Colorado. Join Kate Hogan from the Audubon Society of Greater Denver as we explore the popular past-time of nature and field journaling! Gain some tips and tricks for creating a nature field journal of your own. During the 2nd half of the presentation, learn about the incoming spring migrant hummingbirds, “Nature’s Jewels,” and how to create a safe and sustainable backyard habitat through native plant selection. Bring your own field journal or notepaper to practice! Guests are welcome to attend.
At 1PM, the Railroad Museum will offer a one-hour tour of Railroad Kitchens. Tickets are $3 each plus general admission.

City Council agreed to vacate the alley between 23rd & 24th Streets/Ford and Jackson to make way for the 51-unit apartment building. They also gave them permission for an Early Start on construction. The only remaining issue for the developers is finding space for their tenants to park. They are hoping to get permission to use the High School’s parking lot.
