GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

Scenes from a Route 66 episode shot in Golden – enlarge

Here’s a fun history reference. There was a show called Route 66 that ran from 1960-1964. They shot part of one episode, which aired in 1963, in downtown Golden. The Golden segment (which is at the beginning of the episode) only runs for about 2 minutes, but it includes glimpses of Hested’s, Foss Drug, Dud’s Cafe, Eaker’s Department Store, Lloyd’s School and Office Supplies, Meyer Hardware, Parfet Park, the Stewart Block, and the Welcome Arch. After leaving Golden, they have lunch at El Rancho, then drive around early-60’s Denver.

There was also a Kevin Costner movie called American Flyers, released in 1895, with a segment shot in Golden. The Golden part runs from 1 hour 37 minutes – 1 hour 41 minutes. (You’ll have to wade through a commercial or two.)
