Holiday Art, Downtown Development, and A Chance to Binge on Golden History

The 45th Annual Holiday Art Market at Foothills Art Center opens to the public today! The hours are Mon – Sat: 10AM– 5PM and Sun: noon – 5PM.

6:30PM The Downtown Development Authority Meeting will meet tonight in City Council Chambers. The Colorado Environmental Film Festival (Feb 20-23, 2020) has applied for a $3500 grant to help cover marketing expenses and facility fees for the Mountaineering Center. They will decide whether to agree with GURA’s request that they extend the agreement regarding the $1.8 million Legacy Fund. This agreement states that both boards would need to agree with a decision as to how to spend that money.

Finally, they will review their 2020 budget. The city will raise their fee for “administration” from $67,500 to $75,000. (GURA pays $55K for administration by the City.) The budgeted amount to support “Special Events and Workshops” will drop from $35K to $25K. The amount for “Visit Golden” drops from $15K to $10K, but a new, separate line for “Community Marketing Support” (which is provided by Visit Golden) shows an additional $15K. There is a new $30K line item for “Transit Support.” There has been some discussion regarding a circulator bus in the downtown area, so perhaps this new item would be used for that.

Regular readers will know that I often write about Golden history. I’ve gathered a few of those past articles and posted them on a new page: Golden History: Random Finds from the Colorado Transcript. You may find a few that you missed the first time!
