This is the last weekend for the holiday lights, so find time to take a walk downtown and along the Creek. In addition to the holiday lighting, we have a full moon and the newly-refurbished M on Mount Zion. Pure Golden Enchantment!
Foothills Art Center is opening a new exhibit tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd: the Engaged Object. They’re having a members-only opening reception tonight (Friday the 22nd) from 5-8. Membership starts at $35/year, so maybe this is the time to join! Many social, political and environmental problems seem impossible to solve. In this exhibition, 30 artists who use fine craft media such as glass, textiles, ceramics and metal address these challenges from diverse viewpoints. Join Foothills Art Center as we explore the power of art to evoke and stimulate our worldview. Learn more on their website.
West Side Live! will present Kutandara Marimba Experience tomorrow night (Sat. the 23rd) at 7 at the Jefferson Unitarian Church. Kutandara fuses ancient African music traditions with indie-pop, rock, jazz, gospel, classical, and world folk influences. Their exuberant and hi-energy polyrhythmic performances are both innovative and deeply-rooted. Kutandara means to come together and have a good time, which is the group’s purpose as they exchange energy of music and movement with their audiences. Learn more on the West Side Live! website.
The Colorado Cowboy Gathering is in full swing. They had a members-only sampler concert last night, where each of the performers did one piece. The vocalists were all in fine voice and the cowboy poetry was full of sly wit. Performances go on all day and evening today and Saturday, with the final show at 1PM on Sunday.
