6:30PM Rescheduled: Downtown Development Authority Meeting
7:30PM Nar-Anon Family Group at Calvary Episcopal (map)
6:30PM The Downtown Development Authority meets this evening in City Council Chambers. Tonight is their turn to hear the City’s presentation on Heart of Golden (possible remodel of Clear Creek through downtown). Following that, they will discuss the 2020 Work Plan. The Public Art Commission will request funding from the DDA for downtown murals (including one on the Golden Hotel), though they don’t yet have a dollar amount in mind. The Art Commission is also planning a chalk art festival for early October, and are likely to request DDA funding for that.
Speaking of funding, I have been disappointed to watch the DDA’s support for Golden’s cultural organizations dropping over the past few years. I hope that will improve in 2020.
DDA Arts & Culture Grants:
Year | Budgeted | Actual |
2017 | $25,000 | $22,074 |
2018 | $15,000 | $8,635 |
2019 | $15,000 | $3,749 |
2020 | $15,000 |
The Legacy Fund Taskforce, consisting of 3 members from GURA and 3 from the DDA (2 regulars and a backup from each) met on February 21st. This is the group that is discussing how to spend $1.8 million left from GURA’s downtown project. City staff will give an oral report of their discussion at tonight’s meeting.
Staff will also report on various capital projects, including repairs to tree grates, the new crosswalk at 17th and Washington, and the plan to install lights in Miners Alley. The former mortuary at 1100 Washington Avenue will soon be starting interior work. The City has received 2 proposals for holiday lighting in upcoming years. After the meeting, they will hold an executive session regarding Tributary Food Hall’s Sales Tax TIF request. For more information, review the meeting packet….
