Historic Preservation, 2nd Greatest, and Detox

6:30PM The Historic Preservation Board meets tonight in City Council Chambers. They will begin with a presentation about historic easements, which is a preservation tool they are likely to use to protect the Astor House. Second topic: the new owners of 1823 Ford St (the former New West Physicians building) are asking for a Certificate of Appropriateness for some changes that they plan to make to the building. They plan to add solar panels and more energy-efficient windows, enlarge the windows facing Ford Street, trim the trees, and add some xeric landscaping. They will remove a Tuff Shed from the back side of the building and use that space for a patio. Third topic: the owners of 1209 Washington Avenue are requesting historic site designation for their building. According to local historian Richard Gardner, it was built in 1906. It has served as a tailor shop, as part of the Avenue Hotel, and several other purposes. More recently, it held Nature’s Gift Candle Studio for a number of years and is now the home of Oh! Susanna Vintage Photo Parlor. See the meeting packet for more info….

6:30PM Golden Concert Choir is holding their Membership Night this evening at the Methodist Church (map). If you are interested in singing with them this spring, this is the night to show up!
