Continuing yesterday’s retrospective of what our cultural institutions did in 2011:

  • Acoustic Alley hosted concerts by the Waymores, Acoustic Eidolon, Loose Cannon Bluegrass, Wendy Woo, Dakota Blonde, Jeff Brinkman, Grubstake, Bob Haworth, and Rocky Mountain Jewgrass.
  • The Golden Library continued their impeccable level of service despite their budget difficulties.  The offered their sweetheart book sale in February, Intercambio Spanish-English conversation group, and UFOs (unfinished objects) throughout the year, as well as the summer reading club.
  • Foothills Art Center presented several highly-acclaimed showed this year, including Habitats, Colorado Watercolor Society, Post Secret, The Nude, Cowboys and Rock Stars, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, and the Holiday Art Mart.  They also presented the DocuWest Film Festival in September.
  • The Quilt Museum offered several exhibits this year as well as an excellent Sunday afternoon lecture series and sewing project classes for children.  The also coordinated the Blanket Golden community-wide quilt show last winter.
  • The Colorado Railroad Museum gave train rides every Saturday and hosted special outings with the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and Thomas the Tank Engine. They also offered the Trick or Treat train, hosted the German Heritage Festival, and hosted a Wild West Show during Buffalo Bill Days.
  • In November, our downtown museums in town participated in Night at the Museums–late hours and free admission at the History Center, the Astor House, the Quilt Museum, the Geology Museum, and Foothills Art Center.
