This morning at 9AM, you can join Tom Schweich for a Botanical Field Trip. The Washington Avenue Open Space is a small (4 acre) City of Golden-owned parcel that was deeded to the city in 1993 as part of the surrounding developments. The city has no current plans for this parcel. An area of about 1.5 acres in the center of the parcel contains a somewhat intact native mixed-grass prairie. The current plant list shows there are 98 species of plants growing here, 64 of which are native to Colorado. This field trip is designed for anyone interested in seeing this small open space and learning about the native plants here. There will be a plant list with both scientific and common names. Free. The weather forecast says it won’t be as hot day–predicted high in the mid-70s. Might be a good day to check out one of the trails in the City or the surrounding Jeffco Open space.
The Railroad Museum is offering free general admission to fathers today. Check out the rolling stock on the museum campus, see the exhibits in the depot museum, and take a ride on a train! The Museum is open from 9-5 and rides will be running from 10-4.
Ukulele is apparently an “in” thing right now! The Golden Library is offering Beginning Ukulele from 1-3 this afternoon. Grab your ukulele or borrow one of ours and come “rawk” your way into loving how versatile the ukulele can be in making music. You’ll play melodically, you’ll harmonize, you might be swept away and start singing and dancing too.
Several Golden restaurants are offering special Father’s Day meals today. The Briarwood Inn is serving brunch from 10AM-2PM and Dinner from 4:30-9PM. Schepf’s Restaurant at the Fossil Trace golf club has tenderloin specials at both brunch and dinner today, and they’re including a free domestic draft beer for all Dads. The Table Mountain Inn is featuring Ribeye Steak and Enchiladas, Prime Rib Hash and Eggs, and everything from the regular menu.
