2350 Ford Street – Heeee’s Baaaack!
Remember the 44 unit mixed income housing project proposed for 24th and Jackson Street? Last fall, a Chicago-based developer brought this project to the Planning Commission. He described Golden as “an emerging urban area,” well-suited for this kind of dense, multi-story housing.

Many neighbors attended that meeting and spoke against the project, arguing that the adjacent streets were already too congested, that the multi-story building was not in harmony with the surrounding single family homes, and that the plan did not provide enough off-street parking.

The Planning Commission and City Council approved the plan, but the developer was not able to get the Low-Income Housing Tax Credits that he needed to finance the project.

Now he’s negotiating with other property owners in the same general area to make another attempt at the project. He plans to attend GURA tomorrow night (Monday June 12th, at 6:30 in City Council Chambers) to see whether they would agree to Tax Increment Financing on such a development. According to the staff memo, this new version of the project would be less dense and more in keeping with the scale of the neighborhood. No drawings were included in the meeting packet.

The vacant lot across from Safeway has been sold, and there is a sign posted there inviting people “To discuss the potential submittal of a site plan review application for a mixed-use commercial/dormitory project at 1750 Ford Street, zoned C22-Community mixed use.” This meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 13th, at 5:30 in City Council Chambers.

CSM Neighborhoods
The School of Mines and the City Planning Department are working to give neighbors who live near the campus an opportunity to comment on the school’s expansion plans. There will be a community planning/public input meeting from 5:30-7 on Wednesday the 14th at the Community Center. If you can’t make the meeting, you can still submit your opinions by taking the CSM Neighborhoods Survey.
