I hope you got a chance to visit the Colorado Cowboy Gathering this weekend. It was uniformly fun, for three solid days! Dave Powers got some nice photos, which you’ll find on our Facebook page. Looking forward to next year!
We all know that, with 300,000 visitors per year, the Coors Brewery tour is a mainstay of our local economy. Their visitors shop, dine, and stay in Golden, and generally bring money into the coffers of local merchants and city government.
You may not be aware that Golden’s cultural organizations serve more than twice as many visitors. In 2017, members of the Golden Cultural Alliance had 670,457 visitors! Not only do our museums, theater groups, music, lecture, and film events make life interesting in Golden, they also bring significant fiscal value. A 2017 study of Golden Cultural Alliance members calculated that the total cultural industry impact for Golden was more than $23 million!
February will be Heart and Soul of Golden month, which is our annual celebration of all things cultural. As always, it will be observed with special events by the Golden Cultural Alliance members. We don’t have to wait that long to enjoy cultural stuff in Golden though; this week includes three major events.
The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum opened two new shows yesterday: “It Takes Two to Tango: Collaboration Quilts” and “All in the Family: Family and Album Quilts from the RMQM Collection.” They’ll have their official Opening Reception this Friday evening (Jan 25th).
Miners Alley Playhouse will open Lost in Yonkers (a Neil Simon play) this weekend. They’re offering a special preview show on Wednesday night (the 21st) for only $15!
Foothills Art Center is opening two new shows this weekend: “2019 Members’ Show” and “The Power of Process, A Jeffco Student Exhibition.” They’re having a members-only preview on Thursday evening, and opening to the public on Friday.
Just because it’s January does not mean you need to hibernate.
