Historical trivia: South Golden Road got its name because it’s the road that early Denver-ites would take to get to Golden. Have you ever wondered why it’s called “South Golden Road,” instead of just “Golden Road?” It’s because there also used to be a North Golden Road and a Middle Golden Road. Look on old maps, and you’ll see that 10th Street, which turns into 44th when it leaves Golden, used to be called “North Golden Road.” 13th Street, which turns into 32nd when it leaves the city, used to be called “Middle Golden Road.” Those names have dropped out of usage, but for some reason we’re left with “South Golden Road.”
