The Fall Fitness Celebration continues — Mayor Sloan will cut the ribbon for the new Beverly Heights playground equipment at 5:30 this afternoon. After that, walkers of all ages are invited to join her for a short (but uphill) walk to Golden’s 6200′ water tank for spectacular views and a quick explanation of the tank’s purpose. Beverly Heights park is on 19th street by the stone pillars.
Here’s something you may not have known about that water tower: it’s located at the terminal of a funicular railroad that ran from that spot to the top of Lookout Mountain from 1912 till about 1920. You can still see the scar left by the track, but it gets fainter every year.
