Golden History Moment

2017 Retrospective

In November, 2017, City Council changed the Comprehensive Plan to say that “The city will use its resources to ensure that at least 15% of the total housing stock is affordable to low income households, 15% affordable to moderate income households, and 15% is affordable to middle income households.” The change also stated that the new housing would be integrated into existing neighborhoods.

There was an election for City Council ward representatives. The winners were Rob Reed, Paul Haseman, Jim Dale, and Laura Weinberg.

The City bought the DeLong property on 23rd Street to build a city park for the East Street neighborhood.

Golden Beer Talks, then in its 5th year, featured Margaret Blaha discussing the Horse Protection League.

The School of Mines held their annual International Day celebration.

Mines Little Theater presented Dracula and Arcadia. Golden High School performed a series of one act plays, including The Proposal by Anton Chekov , Porcelain and Pink by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Abra Cadaver by John Mattera. Miners Alley Playhouse presented a new take on A Christmas Carol.

Casey Brown hosted Craft Beer with a Councilor at Cannonball Creek Brewing Company.

The former mortuary was on the market. The former laundromat was being remodeled to serve as the Colorado +49 Cidery.

Foothills Art Center opened their Holiday Art Market and the Colorado Railroad Museum opened the Polar Express.

During the schools’ Thanksgiving break, the Golden Library offered a series of Harry Potter-themed games, crafts, and movies.

Runners High sponsored their annual Great Turkey Chase Fun Run on Thanksgiving day.

The Golden History Museum hosted a lecture on Murder and the Shanghai Prize Fighter. Foothills Art Center held an Ugly Sweater Decorating Party as part of their Art on Tap series, sponsored by Golden City Brewery.

The Buffalo Rose closed for a massive remodeling.
