Golden History Moment
The May 30, 1935 Colorado Transcript announced that former President Herbert Hoover would be receiving an honorary doctorate at the Mines graduation. The staunchly Democratic Transcript was clearly scrambling for something nice to say about him. The best they could come up with was that–as an engineer–he had probably worked hard as a college student.
I expected to find a photo and an article about this Presidential visit in the following week’s Transcript. They dealt with it quite efficiently:
The Golden Transcript (originally called the Colorado Transcript) has been publishing since 1866. The Golden History Museum has been working on digitizing the historic issues. You’ll find old Transcripts online at coloradohistoricnewspapers.org.
