The Golden Fine Arts Festival is running today and tomorrow from 10AM-5PM on 11th Street, next to the Clear Creek History Park. This is a must-do for Golden-ites! If you don’t want to buy stuff, just enjoy looking. They also have live performances, craft beer, food vendors, and children’s activities. Some years the Arts Festival is a blisteringly hot experience, but this year’s forecast looks delightful–highs in the 70s and low 80s. This is one of the biggest fund-raisers of the year for the Golden Chamber or Commerce.
The Golden Hayride is going to provide free shuttle service both days from the parking garages on Jackson Street to the Fine Arts Festival. (Thanks, Stacy!)
The Quilt Museum is having their annual garage sale today from 9-1 (or 2, depending on which source you’re reading). They offer incredible deals on fabric, books, quilts, and quilting-related supplies. The sale items have all been donated, so it’s a wonderful event all around–great deals for shoppers and pure profit for the museum. This is their biggest fund-raiser of the year!
I posted the wrong time for Casey Brown’s Coffee with a Councilor yesterday. It’s at 9:30 this morning (not 11AM). Dottie Massaro is our host, at 637 Idaho Street (map). If you’re at all interested in City business, you should come to these Coffees with a Councilor. You’ll learn a lot and hear a lot of opinions–very educational.
The Golden History Roundtable meets at the Library from 12:30-1:30. Our topic is Goosetown. If you’ve always wondered what that is, here’s your chance to find out!
The Colorado Classic Bike Race will be coming through town this morning. The Beverly Heights neighborhood will be closed down until about 11:15 this morning, and 19th, Jackson, and 13th will be closed from about 10:30-11:15. See the City’s web page for the details on the road closures.
The Railroad Museum has fired up one of their old steam locomotives today, and you can catch a ride behind it! Adults (16+) will pay $4 apiece and children (2-15) are $2 apiece. Museum members receive $1 discount per ticket. Purchase your tickets at the door. The museum is open from 9-5, and rides are available from 10-4.
The Downtown Merchants are celebrating Golden Weekends again tonight. The stores are open late, with sales, specials, and samples. There will be live music in front of Gold Mine Cupcakes (Jubilant Bridge, a Golden-based duo using several string instruments with vocals) and Baby Doe’s (Theresa Peterson, folk modern rock) from 5-8PM, and Carriage Rides from 6-8PM.
Sunday
The Fine Arts Festival will be open from 10AM-5PM.
The Jefferson Symphony will play a free concert in Parfet Park at 6:30. They’ll be playing elections from Broadway musicals, familiar marches, music of John Williams, Leroy Anderson and more! Bring lawn chairs, blankets, a picnic, and your family for this traditional Golden delight.
